Marriott Waikiki Christms Tree 2013

Waikiki Hotel Celebrates With Community This Christmas Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa tree inspired by Hawaiian Chant of Creation

Mahalo Nui Loa!!

HONOLULU, HI -- (Marketwired) -- 12/13/13 -- Hawaii might not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about Christmas -- after all, the state offers beautiful beaches rather than falling snow -- and while the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa is celebrating with a festive tree, it's also making sure to put a local twist on this time-honored tradition.

The theme of the Christmas tree at this Waikiki beachfront hotel : www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-information/travel/hnlmc-waikiki-b .. was inspired by Queen Liliuokalani's 1897 English translation of the Kumulipo, or Hawaiian Chant of Creation. According to the chant, the world was created in 16 Wa, or periods, beginning with the first Wa and the evolution of the ocean and its sea life.

The theme of this Honolulu resort's tree is illustrated in the ornaments, which focus on the creatures of the ocean and include starfish, sea urchin, limpet, crab, eel, fish, sea turtle, octopus, mermaid, seahorse and jellyfish.

The creation of the ornaments was a community effort that brought together this Waikiki spa resort with the staff of the Honolulu Unit of the Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center and the communities that they serve. More than 100 participants helped to prepare and place the ornaments including those from ALU LIKE, Inc. Kupuna Program; Farrington High School; Kalakaua Middle School; Kokua Kalihi Valley, Kalihi Calls; Lincoln Elementary School; Na Lei Malama Keiki and Stevenson Middle School.

To get a glimpse of the themed tree and a bit of sunshine this holiday season, the resort is offering up to $200 in resort credit with its Holiday Getaway Event. The promotion, which must be booked by December 26, 2013 for stays through January 31, 2014, offers a $50 resort credit with each night, giving guests the chance to treat themselves to something special. With the credit, guests can enjoy a nice meal, indulge in a relaxing spa treatment, get out on the green for a round of golf and much more.
